Standard Subject Curriculum Ad-Duha Institute does not offer standard subject curriculum as part of our program* (i.e Math, Science, Reading, etc.). However, we do recommend the following standard subject curriculum providers and programs. Please keep in mind that these recommendations are for families who are looking to purchase curriculum packages (similar to Ad-Duha Islamic Studies Programs) that have all needed textbooks, lesson manuals, enrichment materials, and support services needed for the academic year. If you are interested in unschooling, eclectic, unit studies, or other forms of homeschooling, these recommendations may not fit your needs. If you are unsure of which form of homeschooling you would like to use, please refer to this introductory Homschool Guide for information on the options available. *The ALP Program includes both Islamic and Standard subjects at the Preschool level. The ALP Program is produced entirely by Ad-Duha, it does not include the Calvert Pre-K Program. There is some content in the Calvert curriculum (and in all accredited curriculum packages on the market) that Muslim parents may find objectionable (i.e. mythology, art, stories with pigs or dogs in them, etc.). However, in most cases if you would like to skip the material, or do an alternate assignment, this can easily be arranged by contacting an Educational Advisor. Calvert also now offers a variety of very useful online features (i.e. computer lessons, math enrichment, library resources, parent forum) and interactive software (i.e. spelling and grammar) which we highly recommend and are included in the purchase price of each course. This curriculum is accredited nationally and internationally. We have partnered with this school in the past and found their materials to be highly satisfactory. The cost of the program is very reasonable and they offer need based financial aid (up to 40%) as well. To learn more about Calvert School and its services click here.
University of Nebraska at Lincoln High School There is some content in the UNL curriculum, and in all accredited curriculum packages on the market, that Muslim parents may find objectionable (i.e. art, science lesson, writing assignments etc.). However, in most cases if you would like to skip the material, or do an alternate assignment, this can easily be arranged by contacting the school. There are other High School programs on the market that are cheaper, however UNL offers the best combination of products, services and support for these grade levels based on our experience. To find out more about UNL please click here.
Recommended Enrichment Courses
The programs do include tapes/CD's that contain music, however these are not necessary and may be set aside without effecting the usefulness of the program itself. We recommend the Master Reader program (which includes interactive computer games) for children in older grades (4th to 8th) who may be reluctant readers or may be lagging behind due to slow reading habits. You can purchase the programs directly off the Hooked on Phonics web site, however we recommend purchasing them from eBay (from well rated sellers) where you can get the programs at 25-50% off the recommended retail price (just verify that you are buying the complete set without any missing items). *The Hooked on Math programs (1st-4th Grade) are useful as well, however much of the program is simply repetition of math facts and practice which can be done with flashcards and math worksheets at a much lower cost.
