In order to do well in this level of the program, your child should have all of the following skills:
- Can speak clearly (form sentences) and can be understood by others.
- Can express his needs, likes, and dislikes.
- Can stay on task for 20 minutes or longer (for example when playing a game, cleaning up toys or looking at a book).
- Shows an interest in school (asks to look at books, shows interest in his/her siblings schoolwork).
- Can hold a pencil (or crayon) and can write lines and circles (or some letters).
- Can color simple shapes (staying generally in the lines without scribbling).
- Can complete simple arts and crafts activities that involve cutting, pasting, etc.
- Asks inquisitive questions about people, places, things, and the environment around him/her (for example, “Does Allah see me?”).
- Can comprehend the answers that you give to his questions.
- Can follow directions that involve more than one step (for example, pick up your shirt and put it in the hamper by the bed).
- Takes care of his belongings (puts toys away, does not rip books or paper, does not scribble on walls, does not show a disregard for items in the house).
- Has memorized at least one surah and can recite it clearly.
- Has memorized at least one du’a and can recite it clearly.
How to evaluate your child’s performance:
- If your child cannot complete all the items on this assessment, we recommend you purchase the Mini Mu’min Program first.
- If your child can complete all items on the assessment, then he is ready to enter the ALP Program.
- If your child can do more than this assessment covers (for example writing Arabic letters or memorizing more than 10 surahs) move on to Level A.
